Eric's "Sorry Assed Forge"

July 2003

From start to finish, it took Eric only about 1  1/2 hours to start working on the forge, then work down an old bolt he found.  It could have then been stoned down to an edge for an emergency cutting tool.

Here's what he used...

  • Charcoal from old campfire.
  • Nylon bag he used to carry/hang his food.
  • Old tin foil he found in woods, for the tube.
  • Duct tape, because the foil was old and rotten.  It had lots of leaks...
  • Rusty tin can with some holes for tuyere.

The bag, with willow hoop, and stiffeners for handles.

The bag and tin foil/duct tape air tube.

Working the bellows.

Pointing to the tuyere, make from an old tin can...

His only tools, the hatchet and pliers, along with the finished product.

Not bad for a "Sorry Assed Forge"!!  It just goes to show you that you can make whatever you need, with a little imagination and effort...

Hi Folks...

If you're reading this, you have an interest in wilderness survival.  Hopefully, survival beyond the wilderness as well.  If so, you will be interested in my latest website:  ActiveHomeDefense.com.  I have produced two e-books on the subject of defending against the home intrusion, and firearms training for homeowners.

Go to the links page for the jump to ActiveHomeDefense.com!  You'll be glad you did.
